One Billion People Overweight, 300
Million Obese Worldwide
(Paris, Antara News, 10/20/06)
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), for every
four malnourished adults five more are overweight and this
worldwide epidemic of obesity has side-effects that are
capable of crippling economies and overburdening healthcare
systems with rising cases of chronic diseases, including
diabetes, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, stroke and cancer..
Experts say that developing countries typically fall prey to
this unhealthy trend as their residents assume the sedentary
lifestyles and fattening diet common in Western society. |
