Brain Serotonin Could Link Anxiety, Anorexia
 (HealthDayNews, 9/6/05)

Scientists at the University of Pittsburgh report finding increased serotonin activity in specific areas of the brain in women who had recovered from bulimia, a type of anorexia nervosa characterized by binge-eating followed by inappropriate methods of weight control. The investigators theorize that altered serotonin activity, which has been implicated in anxious and obsessive behavior, may precede the condition. These findings suggest that further research needs to be done into the relationship between anxiety, as indicated by serotonin levels, and anorexia.
