Obesity
Linked to Increased Risk of Stroke in Men
(NY, Reuters Health, 12/10/02)
Based on the responses of 21,000 older men participating in
the Physicians' Health Study over a period of 13 years, Dr.
Tobias Kurth of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and
team, concluded that obese men are twice as likely to suffer a
stroke, compared to their thinner peers. The researchers
defined obesity in terms of Body Mass Index (BMI) which takes
into account both height and weight.
