Antioxidants
Missing in Mouths with Gum Disease
(NY, Reuters Health, 11/26/02)
Dr. Iain Chapple of the University of Birmingham in the UK
and colleagues, studied the mouths of 20 people by analyzing
the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) which seeps from crevices
beneath the gums. Half of these subjects had gum disease,
while the others had healthy gums. The researchers found that
the healthy subjects had significantly higher levels of
antioxidants in their GCF, as well as in their blood. |
