Obesity Linked to Aggressive Prostate Cancer
(Reuters Health, 12/14/01)

When Dr. Christopher L. Amling of the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA and colleagues analyzed the medical records of 860 patients with advanced prostate cancer, the researchers found a correlation between excess body fat and aggressive prostate cancer . The researchers also noted that black men on average have a higher body mass index (weight in relationship to height) and they had increased rates of aggressive prostate cancer. These findings support the speculation that hormones and proteins stored in body fat may promote tumor growth
